Former Black Stars forward Nii Odartey Lamptey has lauded coach Kwesi Appiah's latest call up for midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah.
Head Coach of the national team Kwesi Appiah named an 18 man squad to face Kenya in next month's AFCON 2019 qualifier in Nairobi, which includes Inter Milan star Kwadwo Asamoah.
Asamoah is returning to the national team after a four year absence. This has divided opinions with many questioning the loyalty of the player.
However, ex-footballer Nii Odartey Lamptey believes the 29 year old has a lot to offer the national team following his form with the Nerazzuris.
"Well I won't judge him on that," Odartey Lamptey said when he was quizzed on whether Asamoah is returning after his good days were behind him. "There is a lot of thing involved in playing football," he added on Zylofon FM.
"Maybe at the time of his absence, he felt that was the time to be out or maybe when he force himself to play there are so many things involved,"
"The decision obviously is by him but for me from what I have seen in Kwadwo Asamoah, even if he is ageing there is a lot he's got to offer the national team. So I don't see anything wrong with that even if people are saying he went out and is returning when he was ageing,"
"His services will be needed for now until Kwesi Appiah believes there is someone out there better than him. I saw his performance for Inter Milan on the opening day and I was impressed with that," he concluded.
Kwadwo Asamoah last played for the national team in the World Cup group game between Ghana and Portugal in Brazil four years ago.
