Head Coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars of Ghana, Kwesi Apiah has reiterated that the international friendlies against World Cup bound nations, Japan and Iceland are important ahead of the AFCON qualifier against Kenya in September.
The Black Stars will play Kenya in September for the second game in the AFCON qualifiers and Appiah insists the only games he can use to access his player ahead of the match are the two friendlies.
Ghana beat Japan 2-0 in Yokohama with a number of new faces in the squad due to the absence of some key players. And Coach Kwesi Appiah whose side will next face Iceland of June 7th has affirmed the importance of the friendly games.
“These matches are very important to me because before our next competitive match which is in September, these are the only two matches we got to play and these are the only two games that I can use to access some of our players” he told 442gh.com.
“Some other players I know what they can do and once they start the league again I should be 100 percent sure if I’m choosing the players which can fit in the team without fear”.
“Without these friendly matches it will be really difficult to access some players. Since last year there are a lot of players that have come to the National Team and it’s important they get a lot of friendly games”.
Ghana are in Group E of the AFCON qualifiers with Ethiopia, who they beat 5-0 in the opening game, Sierra Leone and Kenya.
