British born Ghanaian footballer Arvin Appiah has been advised by former Manchester United forward Garry Birtles to work on becoming more consistent as his unleashes his talent onto the world stage.
The 17 year old who is with the England U-17 team for the European Champions has been tipped to excel on the biggest stage as he develops as a football.
Born to Ghanaian parents, Arvin is eligible to play for Ghana despite playing for England at youth levels.
Nottoingham Forest legend Garry Birtles who has high hopes in the youngster talent advised him to remain consistent and work on his weakness, using Ryan Sessegnon as an example.
"It’s great to see Nottingham Forest youngster Arvin Appiah representing England at the Under-17s European Championships," he wrote for Nottinghampost.com. "And he scored a fabulous goal against Italy on Monday."
"It sounds like he’s someone Forest have high hopes for, so who knows, maybe he’ll get his chance with the seniors next year,
"You only have to look at the impact Ryan Sessegnon has had at Fulham to see that if you’re good enough, you’re old enough. He’s been given regular game time and has thrived – and he’s 17, the same age as Appiah.
"Everyone matures at different ages, though, so not everyone is ready to be a first-team regular at the same time.
"Consistency is the magic word, too. You need that at any age. The best players don’t get better, they get more consistent – that’s something young lads need to remember.
"The best piece of advice I can give to someone like Appiah as he tries to make his breakthrough, though, is to listen and learn.Listen to what your coaches, older players and ex-players are telling you. They all have something to give," he concluded.
