West Ham United forward Andre Ayew has told the club's official website that 'there are no words' to describe the side's performance against Everton.
The Hammers turned in a positive second half showing in the 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Friday night, giving fans some hope that new manager David Moyes could land a first win in the job at Everton.
Everton had lost 5-1 to Atalanta and 4-1 to Southampton in the lead-up to Wednesday's clash, but with new Toffees boss Sam Allardyce – formerly of West Ham – in the stands – Everton produced a fine display.
Wayne Rooney bagged a hat-trick, including a goal from his own half, whilst Ashley Williams also found the net in a thumping 4-0 win in David Unsworth's final game as Everton caretaker.
For West Ham, it was another desperately poor performance, which also featured Manuel Lanzini having a penalty saved by Jordan Pickford as nothing went right for Moyes and co.
The result leaves West Ham in the relegation zone, two points from safety with a league-worst record of 30 goals conceded in just 14 games, with Moyes already facing an uphill battle to turn the Hammers' season around.
After the final whistle on Merseyside, West Ham forward Andre Ayew told the club's official website that there were 'no words' to describe the performance, but he did manage to state that 'it's not normal' to be so determined yet leave with a 4-0 defeat.
The Ghanaian international - a £20million signing from Swansea City in 2016 (BBC Sport) - added that West Ham must stay strong, especially with some tough games on the horizon, but the Hammers must stay together and 'be men' in their fight at the bottom of the table.
“There are no words,” said Ayew. “We came here with lots of determination to do something. We leave here with zero points and four goals conceded. It’s not normal. We need to get back to work and try and get some points. We need to stay strong, be men, take responsibility and move forward.”
“It’s not going to be easy, it will be difficult as we have tough games coming up. But we need to tune our mind and fight and try and get the maximum points that we can from those games.”
