Manager of Brand Communications & Sports Marketingf Adidas Indonesia, Welliam Lauw has opened up on the influence of Michael Essien with the sale of their apparel in the country.
The 34-year-old signed a bumper deal worth $500,000 with the German sportswear giants to become the face the brand in the Indonesia.
Speaking at the "Adidas Tango League" in The Space in Senayan City, Jakarta, Sunday, Lauw disclosed that their partnership with the Ghanaian midfielder has boosted their sale.
"When Essien came to Indonesia, he preferred Adidas, he wanted to talk to us, so we could go with Essien," said Welliam Lau.
" Branding certainly has its effect, considering the arrival of Essien to Indonesia is quite booming then," he said.
Not only Essien, Adidas also supports a number of names in League 1.
Paulo Sergio (Bhayangkara FC), Marc Klok (PSM Makassar), Sutanto Tan (Persija Jakarta), and Achmad Jufriyanto (Persib) are some of the players who are associated with the brand.
