Division One League side Bekwai Youth Football Academy have formally reported Tema-based referees Teye Mensah and Prince Coffie to the Ghana Football Association over cheating in their recent league matches urging the federation to counsel the match officials.
In a letter addressed to the General Secretary of the GFA, copied to the Referees Appointment Committee and the Division One League Board, the newly promoted side complained of how they were swindled and bamboozled by the referees in their matches against Wassaman and Samatex which were handled by Teye and Coffie respectively.
The Bekwai-based side complained that Referee Teye Mensah gave their player Iddrisu Yahaya a red card, played 12 minutes of additional time and watched on unconcerned when their defender Thomas Gyawu was lying unconscious with blood oozing from the head after suffering an elbow-hit from a Wassaman player.
“It’s pathetic. We are just an innocent young team and we have no problem with anyone. But the way the referee robbed us against Wassaman was just unfair,” Communications Manager of the club Mohammed Yazeed told GHANAsoccernet.com
The academy boys who have been described as the new Barcelona of the GN Bank Division One League also reported Referee Prince Coffie who diddled and victimized the side at their own home grounds in Bekwai against Samatex.
“The referee was just amazing. He ignored two clear penalties, gave the away side the room to dramatize and delay time on the field and played just 1 minute 47 seconds of the additional three minutes after 90 minutes,” he added.
“We are not demanding that these referees must be sanctioned but all we want is fair officiating, whether home or away. The FA and the other bodies should just talk to them to be fair to us all. If we play at home and lose, we will praise the away side and that is football,” he added.
Referees have come under intense criticism this season with many facing suspension while others are responding to queries by the Referees Review Committee following controversial decisions.
