Retired Ghanaian referee Mercy Tagoe says FIFA’s ban on J.O Lamptey is a condemnation to Ghanaian referees in a week that the whole nation has been submerged in what is without a doubt the hardest punishment meted out to a Ghanaian football official.
The Immigration Officer by profession was found guilty of breaching the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifying match between South Africa and Senegal on November 12, 2016.
“It’s a misfortune because to err is human so I was expecting that they will temper justice with mercy…
“It’s really going to affect our referees and tarnish the image of Ghana football and refereeing as well and it will affect us in our selection to these international matches,” she told Starrsports
“When I was there, I managed to attend some international games but with development, it will affect every Fifa referee we have in Ghana,” Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo added.
