Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has assured his critics that he will move on when the wind of change blows insisting he will not hold on when change creeps into Ghana football as nobody including himself can stop it.
He made the comments on the back of the supplanting of the battle-scarred Issa Hayatou on Thursday after 29 years reign as CAF president.
According to the outspoken lawyer, neither himself nor anybody else can stop change when it comes, advising that leaders should move on when change comes.
“… no man or woman born of a woman can stop it and that is what happened. The wind comes like a hurricane and if you try to stop it, you would be carried off your feet” he said
“Yesterday (reference to the CAF lelections), apart from the president who lost his election I think four or five other existing CAF executive members also lost their seats and I witnessed a similar scenario in 2006 when a wind of change blew across CAF leading to the loss of many people on the executive committee and the election of new people”
“So from time to time this phenomenon will occur, nothing can stop it and the lesson we should all learn is that when you are in leadership a time will come when you have to move on. If you don’t move on, you will be moved away.
“All of us, including me, a time will come for us to move on and if we don’t move the wind will be so strong to move us away” he emphasised.
Nyantakyi is in his 12th year as GFA president since occupying the position in December 2005.
He has led Ghana to three successive senior World Cup appearances in 2006 (Germany), 2010 (South Africa) and 2014 (Brazil) respectively including an unprecedented Under 20 World Cup triumph in Egypt in 2009.
