The South African Football Association has renewed their interest in SuperSport United head coach, Stuart Baxter, and have approached him for the Bafana Bafana job.
Baxter was in the running for the post earlier this year as SAFA looked to find a replacement for Shakes Mashaba, but at that stage it appeared that Carlos Queiroz was the man who was the favourite to take the job.
However, Queiroz was unable to take the post due to the Iranian FA searching for millions in compensation, and another candidate, Herve Renard, was ruled out after the parties failed to agree on terms.
Now, as SAFA desperately look to fill the void left by Mashaba last year, the Siya crew has been informed that they have turned their attentions to the former Amakhosi coach, and are trying to persuade him to take the job for the second time after his first stint between 2004 and 2005.
The 63-year-old – who is also linked with Ghana job – has previously distanced himself from the position, confirming that he never applied for the job, and even went as far as saying he was more likely to sign a new deal with SuperSport than join up with Bafana.
Now, however, with SAFA actively pursuing the Englishman as their search drags on, they may be prepared to give him whatever he wants in order to get their man and put the matter to bed.
