Bolgatanga, Dec. 31, GNA – The Alexia’s Cross Foundation (ACF), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has presented assorted food and sanitary items to the Maternity and Paediatric units of the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga.
The donation was part of the organization’s mission and project plan for the year 2019; and it was intended to complement the efforts of parents and hospital management to care for them.
Giving a brief history of the NGO after presenting the items to the patients, Alhaji Ahmed Rahim, Co- founder of the NGO, said its founder, Madam Vida Kwotuah, established it in memory of her late daughter, Alexia Walenkaki who died tragically in a playground in London in 2015, a day before her 6th birthday.
Alhaji Rahim said “Whilst alive, whenever Alexia visited Ghana and the Northern and Upper East Regions in particular, she would give everything she had to children that needed it most. A very cheerful giver she was”.
The Co-founder said the Foundation is aimed at mobilizing funds and other resources to provide welfare support to children and parents whose condition have direct effect on children’s welfare, through donations and visitation to child-based and related institutions.
“The vision of ACF is a society in which all children are loved, protected and cared for physically, socially, psychologically and economically,” he said.
Alhaji Rahim said the NGO has over the years extended similar gestures to The Tamale Children’s Home in the Northern Region and the Navrongo Central Prison in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality.
He the ACF would from 2020, visit two basic schools in selected deprived communities in the Upper East, Upper West, North East and Northern Regions to support them with learning materials.
Mr Zakariah Yakubu, the Head of Administration of the Upper East Regional Hospital, received the items and expressed gratitude to the Foundation on behalf of the patients.
“It is a motivation to us as staff to know that people appreciate us and want to complement our work. It is a season of sharing and we are grateful to have received this for our patients”.
He called on similar organizations to emulate the example of ACF saying “nothing is too small.”
