Gambibgo (U/E), Dec. 26, GNA – Mrs Nadia Adongo Musah, the Deputy Director, Diaspora Affairs, Office of the President, has spent the Christmas partying and sharing with the aged in Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region.
The Deputy Director, through her foundation, Ntuune Pogyua Foundation, established in 2018, organized a Christmas party for the elderly in rural communities in the District.
In addition to the food and drinks, each of the the aged who were mostly women, were given an undisclosed amount of money.
Earlier, the Presidential Staffer organized free health screening and treatment for those who had related health concerns.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mrs Musah said the Foundation was formed with the objective of helping the aged, who are often neglected in the society, feel happy and comfortable during celebration.
Mrs Musah, who is also a native of Gambibgo, said the aged have contributed immensely in raising the younger generation, so it was imperative for the youth to give back to the society by making the aged feel a sense of belonging.
She said last year when the Foundation was launched it had about 300 beneficiaries and this has since increased to 550.
“The Foundation does not wait until Christmas Day to engage with the aged but offers support to many of the beneficiaries who may have difficulties especially in health, it is more like intergenerational, so we have connected them with various youth groups who monitor them and report back to us on how they are faring”.
The Deputy Director said leveraging support for the development of the Upper East Region has always been her passion and reiterated her commitment to use her office to solicit more support for the development and wellbeing of the region.
She said through her outfit, in October this year, she was able to liaise with surgeons and other medical doctors to undertake free reconstructive plastic surgery at the regional hospital in Bolgatanga and about 94 people benefitted from the gesture.
Mrs Musah said the funding was from her personal resources and the support of other individuals who believe in her cause of putting smiles on the faces of the aged and contributing to developing Upper East Region.
She called on natives of the region to contribute their quota to help develop the area.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to the GNA expressed gratitude to the Deputy Director saying she always responded to their call anytime they needed help.
