Kwaboadi (E/R) Dec. 23, GNA - Mr. Samuel Erasmus Afrane, the Country Director for The Hunger Project - Ghana has planted coconut trees at the Kwaboadi Epicenter to demonstrate self-reliance to the people.
The coconut seedling were planted during their celebration of the epicentre in the Akyemansa district of the Eastern region.
Mr Afrane, speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview afterwards said, The Hunger Project - Ghana is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), which implements programmes aimed at improving the living standard of people in rural communities in terms of health, nutrition education and livelihood empowerment.
He said, the Epicenter established at Kwaboadi in 2006, equipped people in the area with skills, knowledge and capital and it was time for them to be self-reliant.
"Celebrating the self-reliance today does not call for abandonment on the part of The Hunger Project - Ghana, a periodical check is assured " Mr. Afrane noted.
Mr. Kwasi Amenyo the Chairman at Kwaboadi Epicenter expressed gratitude to the entire executives of The Hunger Project for the assistance and assured them of their effort to keep the self-reliance going on.
He said, the centre constituted 16 communities such as Zevor, Akyekrom, Twumkrom among others and were equipped with health and nutrition education, skills and development and Vision Commitment and Action (VCA).
The Epicenter building comprised of a Community Health Planning services Compound, Nurses quarters, microfinance office, conference hall, a library and food bank.
During the celebration, there was an exhibition of products in the form of soap.
Nana Kwaku Boateng the Odikro for Kwaboadi number two and his elders, officials from the District Assembly and community members were present at the occasion.
