Akyawkrom (Ash), Dec 22, GNA - Dr. Adu Gyamfi, Dean of faculty of Education and Communications Studies of the University of Education Winneba, (UEW) has stressed the need for professionals and people with special skills and knowledge to actively get involved in local governance.
He said promoting effective development to improve the living conditions of the people at the grass root level depended much on the caliber of people elected to take decisions and implement policies and programmes at the district assemblies.
Dr Adu Gyamfi, who was as the assembly member for Akyawkrom in the Ejisu Municipality told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that, active involvement of people with specialised skills was crucial to speed up local development process.
He expressed gratitude to the people of Akyawkrom for giving him the opportunity to serve them and said he would put his expertise at the disposal of the assembly to promote development in the community.
The 58-year-old Senior lecturer at the Kumasi campus of UEW, pledged to collaborate with the chiefs and other stakeholders in the area to speed up the development of the area.
He said as an educationist, he would work to promote quality education, which was the only everlasting legacy for future leaders.
