Speaking at the inaugural ceremony Bishop Atuahene underscored the need for Ghanaians to co-exist peacefully during the election year.
He pledged that members of the Committee would “stay above the waters” and approach their duties with the high sense of sacrifice, zeal and tenacity of purpose.
The Bishop therefore urged public-spirited individuals and organisations to enable it live up to expectation.
Rehashing the rationale behind the formation of the IPDCs by the NCCE, Mr Adu, the Ahafo Regional Acting Director of the Commission said as a result of seven successful elections in the country, Ghana was internationally acclaimed as one of the beacons of democratic governance not only in West Africa, but on the African Continent at large.
“As a result of Ghana’s records there is a dire need to deepen and consolidate her democratic tenant and credentials. Ghana’s situation therefore provides enough justification for the formation of Inter-Party Dialogue Committees that will up as a buffer zone in the constituencies to stem the tide of unnecessary suspicions and anxieties among political parties.”
Mr John Appiah Baffoe, the Ahafo Regional Director of the Electoral Commission urged people in the region to give the Committee the necessary support and encouragement in the discharge of its duties.
Mr Baffoe thanked the United Nation’s Development Programme for its preparedness to finance the activities of the Committees.
