Banda (O/R), Dec. 20, GNA - The Banda Water Supply System in the Krachi East District of the Oti Region has been fixed after it broke down in 2014.
The community and its environs have been depending on a stream and a borehole for five years when the water supply system and two of the three boreholes in the community became dysfunctional.
This posed a great challenge to the people with many having to walk several kilometers to a stream at the outskirts of the community and others queuing to access water from the only functioning borehole.
The restored water supply system will serve more than 2,000 people within Banda and its environs.
Mr Michael Yaw Gyato, the Deputy Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, and Member of Parliament (MP) for Krachi East, whose effort led to the restoration of the system, said he would continue to undertake projects to improve the livelihoods of the people.
The MP said a similar water situation occurred at Chindri, the District Capital of Krachi Nchumuru, but they managed to resolve it, leading to reduction in water crisis in the area.
Mr Gyato said he was currently focusing on the Dambai Water System to ensure its expansion so that water could be extended to other communities.
Nana Akwasi Omankuminte II, the Paramount Chief of Banda Tekpang Traditional Area, commended the MP for the good work and promised to ensure the facility was used judiciously.
