Cape Coast, Dec. 16, GNA - A book titled; "Understanding English Literature" has been launched to assist the public, especially students, to be able to speak, understand and write the English Language with ease.
The 105-page book seeks to make reading enjoyable, give straight forward approach to Literature in English and serve as a great help for students to pass their examination.
Speaking at the launch, Mrs Mercy Catherine Adjabeng, the Author, said the general use of the English Language was becoming a problem as people did not know when to use what and how.
"This book breaks down all the components of literature making it simple for use for both understanding and reading," she explained.
She indicated that in 2018, about 61 per cent of students who sat for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) failed in English Language and, as a result, could not be enrolled in the tertiary institutions.
"I am confident that this book will be good for students in English and in all English applied areas for excellence because it is a good learning material and resource, which teachers can use as a manual and students as a guide."
She called on parents to purchase it for their children and old students for their alma mater to enhance teaching and learning of English.
Mrs Adjabeng donated 300 copies, valued at GH¢ 6,000.00, to the Wesley Girls' Senior High School.
Mrs Kay Oppong-Ankomah, the Headmistress of the Wesley Girls High School, gave the assurance that the School would make effective use of the books for excellent results.
Miss Eva Mensah, an English Language Teacher, said the book covered every aspect of literature and urged students to use it not only in advancing their vocabularies but also for examination purposes.
Miss Ruth Coleman, a student, said it was very informative with simplified diction, which made studying English beautiful.
