Ho, Dec. 16, GNA - Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State has asked the Asogli Traditional Council to consider setting aside a day for development of the Traditional Area.
“Such an initiative would promote a stronger development orientation among chiefs, and raise more awareness to development issues than before”, he said.
Togbe Afede who was addressing the last meeting of the Traditional Council in the year in Ho, said such a day would bring the chiefs and the people together to chart a course for development.
He said "a root-based development" model designed by the Council years ago could be adopted and implemented.
The Agbogbomefia said the model had committees on education, health and other crucial sectors, and proposed that the committees be structured to be made up of members drawn from the various communities.
Togbe Afede further advised that a central committee be formed to coordinate the various bodies towards the broader developmental goals, adding that the committees would also help provide counsel to traditional leaders.
“Communities must form small development committees to see what could be done towards development. Let’s try to see if we can use this initiative to awaken our youth to the developmental call,” he said.
Togbe Afede assured the Council that efforts were underway to establish an aviation training school and an aircraft maintenance facility at the Ho Airport.
He asked traditional authorities in the Region to strategise towards taking advantage of opportunities that would come along with the completion of the Ghana-Burkina Joint Railway project.
The Agbogbomefia said the line would transverse the Region, and that chiefs must help realise the establishment of industrial parks within the enclave.
He also asked chiefs to help ensure that the project did not suffer unnecessary land litigations and compensations challenges.
Togbe Afede called on chiefs to rule with a "sceptre of truth," saying “truth within the chieftaincy institution would prevent disputes and fraudulent dealings.
“The important thing is that we pass on better legacies to our children”, he added, and reiterated that chiefs in the Region did not recognise the infamous group of Volta secessionists.
