Accra, Dec. 16 GNA - Persons with disability will not be required to join queues at polling stations to cast their ballots in the Tuesday December 17, District Level Election, the Electoral Commission (EC) has said.
The Commission said it had made special arrangements for that group and the aged to be given the opportunity anytime they arrived at the polling station.
Speaking at a media briefing ahead of the elections, Mr Samuel Tettey, Deputy Commissioner in-charge of Operations at the EC said the Commission had provided tactile ballot jackets in addition to the ballot papers for the visually impaired.
He said polls would not take place in the Nkoranza North and South in the Bono East Region and Lower Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region as they exercised their franchise in 2018.
Mr Tettey said the final voters registers of all the 31,851 polling stations were printed and dispatched to the regions and districts.
On security, Dr Eric Bossman Asare, Deputy Commissioner in-charge of Corporate Services said as part of the logistical arrangement towards the success of the process, a total of 58,000 Biometric Verification Devices (BVD) were refurbished and dispatched.
“This includes; back-ups, which would be used to replace faulty BVD’s. Well-trained technicians are deployed to provide technical support, where needed” he said.
Dr Asare said the EC submitted the list of all polling stations across the country to enable them deploy security men on Election Day to ensure law and order.
