Akim Akroso (E/R), Dec. 11, GNA - Mr Evans Amoah, 49, won this year's Best Farmer for the Asene- Manso- Akroso District at the recent 35th annual national farmers day celebration held at Akim Akroso in the Eastern Region.
Mr Amoah urged farmers to see farming as a business that needs time and attention.
He said part of his achievement depended on good record keeping, planning combined with knowledge and skills acquired from the Agriculture Extension Agents.
Mr Amoah has 18 acres of rice, 21 acres of cocoa, 1,050 layers, 1,000 cockerels, 130 local birds and others.
He said he has five permanent workers and 18 casual workers.
Mr Prosper Klu, the District Agriculture Director for Asene –Manso- Akroso District, called on the private sector to partner government to invest in agriculture because it has a huge potential to grow the Ghanaian economy and create jobs.
Mr Klu said the various government interventions in agriculture are to help increase agriculture productivity of farmers in the country.
He expressed gratitude to various institutions, the staff and individuals who contributed in diverse ways to support the celebration of the day.
Mr Alex Incoom, the Asene- Manso- Akroso District Chief Executive (DCE), said next year, the assembly would support farmers in the area with 36,000 oil palm seedlings.
He said the district intends to build an oil palm processing factory under the One District One Factory programme.
