Koforidua, Dec 4, GNA - Ms Priscilla Boafo, aspiring assembly member for Old estate electoral area in the New Juaben municipality says she will advocate Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) to create employment for the teeming unemployed youth.
She said it was unfortunate that people perceived TVET as an area for those who don’t do well in academics and pledged to advocate through sensitization and education of parents and guardians in the area to embrace it.
Ms Boafo, who said this during an interview with the Ghana News Agency indicated that if given the nod, she would collaborate with the assembly to set funds aside to support people who would go into TVET as a means of creating employment for the youth.
The aspiring assembly member said her father was not happy when after her Ordinary level (O’level) examination she decided to be a fashion designer just because he felt that “fashion designing or dressmaking was for illiterates and not secondary school graduates like me”.
She said, despite her father’s stiff opposition, she was enrolled as an apprentice and afterwards attended several institutional training programmes adding “today fashion designing is my source of livelihood and my father was happy with my success”
Ms Boafo, a fashion designer and a single parent is contesting with three men for the position and has made a passionate appeal to the electorates to support her as the first woman to contest in the area to whip up women’s interest in politics.
