Sunyani, Nov. 29, GNA - The Sunyani Technical University (STU) has tasked faculty heads to design innovative programmes in line with the needs of industry and emerging areas that will help expand the national economy.
In addition, the University has submitted a number of four-year Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech) programmes for clearance from National Council for Tertiary Education to obtain accreditation from the National Accreditation Board.
Professor Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, the Vice-Chancellor of STU, explained the move was not only to make the institution a University of choice, but to position it well to absorb prospective students of the free Senior High School programme in the next academic year.
The VC, who was speaking at the university’s 24th matriculation ceremony on Wednesday in Sunyani, said Accreditation for the first four-year B-Tech programme in Fashion Design Technology had already been obtained.
He expressed the hope that other four-year B-Tech programmes, especially in its niche and related programmes would be approved soon and rolled out in the 2020/2021 academic year.
A total of 2,229 applicants made up of 1,454 males and 845 females were admitted for the 2019/2020 academic year, an increase of 20 per cent over last year's enrolment of 1,914 students.
Prof Adinkrah-Appiah expressed concern that despite improvement in general enrolment, female enrolment in Engineering, Science and Technology was low.
Mr. Samuel Ankamah Obour, the STU Registrar, who led the fresh students to swear the matriculation oath, warned them to remain focus and concentrate on their studies to justify the investments their parents, guardians and the government have made in them.
