Accra, Nov. 21, GNA - Madam Karley Amui, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma Central has said the meet-the-press programme was laudable as it brings decentralisation to the door steps of the citizenry.
She said it would also help to deepen the local governance system.
Madam Amui made the remark at the meet-the-press organised by the Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly in Accra.
She urged the media to openly express their views and comments to put the assemblies on their toes as they delivered on their mandate to meet the aspirations of the people.
Mr Kwasi Adarkwa, the Planning Officer of the Assembly who presented the performance and activities of the Assembly since its creation in February, 2019 said it realised GH¢1,779,504.08 revenue out of its estimated Internally Generated Fund of GH¢3,464.500.00 for the year 2019.
He said measures put in place to boost revenue mobilisation included; valuation and revaluation of property, collection and update of data on enterprises, establishment of revenue taskforces, and revenue pay points.
The Planning Officer said the main tasks of the Assembly over the period was waste management, food safety and public health and that sanitation and waste management was the key drivers of its expenditure.
Mr Adarkwa said weekly rotational clean up exercises were organised in conjunction with assembly members and various groups at Nmemmette, Mataheko, Abossey Okai, Larterbiokorshie, Mambrouk, Adwenbu and Gbortsui electoral areas.
On public health, he said, the Assembly carried out screening of food vendors and monitored the fumigation activities of Zoomlion, while inspected premises and markets and undertook hygiene education in schools.
The Assembly under its social accountability and public information had created a website: www.abcma.gov.gh to help create awareness of the creation and operation of the Assembly.
Two hundred and fourteen persons were employed under the Youth Employment Agency, which forms part of the Government’s flagship programmes; they fall under the modules of Youth in Community Protection, 60 personnel; Youth in Arabic, 12; Youth in Sanitation, 136; and Youth in Sports, six.
About the Free Senior High School Policy 1,289 benefited in 2017, 1,287 in 2018 and 1,327 in 2019, this totalled 3,903. Twenty-five basic schools were enrolled onto the Ghana School Feeding Programme and 10,677 pupils had been enrolled while 23 caterers engaged.
On proposed projects in 2020, Mr Adarkwa said the Assembly would construct a fence wall at the Holy Family Catholic School, six-unit classroom block at DaAwatul Islamic Primary School in the Sabon Zongo community.
A two-unit kindergarten classroom block would be constructed at Ayaa Ideen Islamic Basic School at Sukura; procure 3,000 dual desks to be distributed to schools, re-roofing of both Atta Mills and Obama basic schools; and re-roofing and construction of a six-unit classroom block at Riyada Islamic School.
