Bibiani (WN/R), Nov. 19, GNA - Mr Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, Member of Parliament for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Constituency, has organized a two-week free eye screening and cataract surgery for over 9,000 people in the constituency.
With a 27- member combined medical team from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and Bibiani Government Hospital more than 9,000 people were screened for various eye ailments.
Mr Kwasi Addae, Medical Officer in Komfo Anokye Hospital and Coordinator of the Exercise, said the programme was to help eradicate all avoidable blindness occurences and to promote good health in the constituency.
He said out of the 9,000 people screened, 700 cases were booked for cataract surgeries and 316 surgeries have so far been successfully done.
Mr Gyedu, who doubles as the Western North Regional Minister, said the eye screening and the cataract surgery was part of a routine medical screening programme he has been organizing for his people.
He said over the years, he has provided a number of first class medical facilities for the municipal hospital, constructed many CHP compounds to provide health care to the people.
“Health care needs of the people are on top of my agenda and I will continue to seek the interest of my people to keep them physically fit", he said.
Mr Gyedu said he provided all the necessary materials for the screening and the surgery and was also footing the bills of the medical team undertaking the exercise.
Dr Yaw Aikins, one of the specialists from Komfo Anokye Hospital, advised the beneficiaries to adhere to the instruction of the doctors on how to live a healthier lives after the surgery.
