Kumasi, Nov. 12, GNA - The Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has officially performed a ground-breaking ceremony for the commencement of work on the Suame Municipal Assembly complex.
He was assisted by Baffour Asabre Kogyawoasu, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's Nsumankwahene (Chief Priest), as well as Dr. John Osei Bobie-Boahin, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE).
Messrs B.B. Viderk Limited, are the contractors for the project, which is expected to be completed in nine months and being sponsored from the District Assemblies' Common Fund (DACF).
The disability-friendly three-storey project, to be sited on a 1, 497 square metres landmass at Suame in the Ashanti Region, is to help coordinate effectively activities of the newly-created municipality when completed.
It would help bring under one roof, all the 13 decentralized departments, which are currently being run from different rented apartments.
Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who is the Member of Parliament for Suame, said the local government concept could work as anticipated, if there was adequate structures and infrastructure to support the Assemblies.
The contractors should as such work harder to complete the project as scheduled.
The Majority Leader said Suame had lots of development potentials, as a result of this, the Assembly ought to be innovative in harnessing those potentials.
They need to be serious in overcoming initial challenges as a newly-created municipality to bring growth in the lives of the people.
Baffour Kogyawoasu advised Assembly Members to forge closer collaboration with traditional authorities in the discharge of their duties.
Dr. Bobie-Boahin indicated that the facility brings to two the number of recent infrastructure projects being executed to enhance development at the Municipality.
The Assembly is already working on the construction of a court complex to facilitate the justice delivery system.
Dr. Bobie-Boahin described as a disincentive to the development aspirations of the Assembly, the situation where its activities are performed in different rented premises at Suame.
