Accra, Nov. 12, GNA - A one-week Comprehensive Medical Support in Complex Emergencies Course is underway at the Kofi Annan international Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra.
The course, organised by the KAIPTC and funded by the German Government, is being attended by 24 participants drawn from 16 countries in West, East and Central Africa.
Facilitators of the course are drawn from several universities from United States, United Kingdom and Germany; with military facilitators from Germany and Ghana Armed Forces, and the United Nations Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (UN DHMOSH).
KAIPTC’s first medical course seeks to train and sensitize military, police and civilian working in emergency crises and critical environments.
Major General Francis Ofori, Commandant of KAIPTC, in a speech read on his behalf, commended the German Government for sponsoring the course, as well as the facilitators for the expertise and tremendous support.
He said the course would enhance the understanding of participants on international guidelines, concepts and principles applying to complex emergencies.
The Commandant said the facilitators has a wide field of medical and emergency experience and knowledge which they have shown over the years as experts and expressed the hope that the course would build the capacity of peacekeepers.
Mrs Andrea Grimm, First Secretary of the German Embassy of Germany to Ghana, also urged participants to use the opportunity to broaden their knowledge, skills and competencies.
Mrs Grimm, who encouraged participants to exchange ideas, said “good personal relations between all stakeholders in humanitarian emergencies contributes to the success of a mission and ultimately helps to reach the overall goal to ensure peace and security in Africa”.
