Ledzokuku makes strides in development

Teshie (GAR), Nov.12, GNA - The Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly (LeKMA) has provided strategic social and economic amenities to improve the lives of residents and to make the Municipality a destination for investment.

Addressing the Assembly’s Meet-The-Press at Teshie, Mrs Evelyn Twum Gyamrah, Ledzokuku Municipal

Chief Executive, said the amenities would support education, health, water and sanitation, fishing, spatial planning as well as social welfare and community development programmes to empower the poor marginalized.

On education, she said, a number of interventions had been made including building new school blocks, expanding and renovating existing ones, adding,” The Krobo 1 school block, Dar es Salam Islamic School block and the Teshie Salem Presby Kindergarten are examples. Again, a total number 3045 units of students’ desks and teachers ‘tables and chairs have distributed to our school to aid teaching and learning.”

 According to her,”As in many Senior High Schools across the country, the three SHS in the Municipality, Teshie Technical Training Centre, and O’Reilly SHS has increase in the enrolments as a result of the Free SHS programme.”

Mrs Twum Gyamrah said 111 persons benefited from disbursement under the LEAP programme since 2017 while 64 and 106 Persons Living With Disability also benefited from disbursements and distribution of equipment to facilitate trade and vocation in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

She said the Youth Employment Programme (YEA) and the Nation Builders Corp, which were introduced by government to facilitate and create employment among the youth were helping in various departments of the Assembly.

According to her, 510 YEA personnel deployed to the Municipality under Community Policing Assistance, Youth in Sports, Youth in Sanitation and Youth in Arabic modules and 210 NABCO trainees working under Civic Ghana, Revenue Ghana, Feed Ghana, Digitize Ghana and Enterprise Ghana modules were crucial to the operations of the Assembly.

The MCE said roads and storm drains had been completed to aid transportation and business in the area and called for the support and understanding of residents as more of such projects would be done to improve the overall state of the roads in the areas.
