Koforidua, Nov 8, GNA - The Eastern Regional Secretariat of Fisheries Commission has embarked on the sale of smoke free grilled catfish in the New Juaben South Municipality.
The project is to help develop market for the produce of farmers engaged in catfish farming in the Eastern Region. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency(GNA), Ms Yaa Agyapomaa Danso, the Director for New Juaben Zone of the Fisheries Commission disclosed that the project started in March this year to add value to catfish and also help the farmers to sell their produce and at the same time provide high quality grilled smoke free catfish to people in Koforidua.
The Director said the project had changed the fortune of fish farmers in the region and made their business more profitable adding that from March to date, the Commission had sold over 2,000 kilograms worth of fish for the farmers.
This she said had boosted the sales of the farmers and their interest in fish farming.
In addition this project is the first of its kind and is receiving high patronage from some offices in the New Juaben Municipality.
She expressed the hope the project would receive high orders in future to help reduce unemployment in the country and promote aquaculture in Koforidua and beyond
