Mampong (Ash), Oct. 30, GNA – The University of Education in Asante Mampong, as part of deliberate steps to bolster Agriculture Education and expertise, has awarded 33 students scholarships to pursue post-graduate studies in Agriculture and related fields.
The beneficiary students graduated this year with First Class Honours.
Reverend Father Professor A. Afful Broni, the Vice Chancellor of the College, at the 16th Congregation at Asante Mampong, said the students, after completing the programme, would help bolster the country’s agricultural expertise towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The College is, therefore, establishing an on-campus Seed Research Division to help boost the Government’s flashship programme; Planting for Food and Jobs, and other related initiatives.
Additionally, he said, the College had commenced feasibility studies into the establishment of a meat factory in line with the One District One Factory programme.
The two projects, when operational, would help create jobs for the scholarship beneficiaries as they would be employed at the same College to boost consultancy services and academia.
Addressing the 908 graduands who had pursued various programmes in the Sciences in all its three faculties, he counselled against complacency and urged them not to be content with the First Degree but use it as a stepping stone to climb higher the academic ladder.
Rev. Afful Broni further advised the graduating students to take advantage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to upgrade their knowledge to be abreast of the fast-advancing digital world and remain relevant in the world of work.
Having graduated from the College of Agriculture, where versatility has been at the core of their education, he said, they had no excuse to complain about unemployment, but endeavor to use the employable skills acquired to create their own jobs.
Miss Doris Owusu was adjudged the Best Female Student while Mr Emmanuel Osei Kuffour was adjudged the Best Male Student and the Overall Best Student.
