Accra, July 28, GNA - Apostle Joseph Sakyi, a former Director of Christian Education of the Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI) has underscored the need for church leaders to understand youth life in the church.
He said church leaders must understand the importance of the youth and what the Bible says about them.
He said there also the need for church leaders to understand what sociologists say about the youth and learn to cope and train them as the symbol of economic power or wealth of nations and the Church.
He said the youth is the major economic strength of the local church, saying, Jesus Christ demonstrated this when he used a youth to feed a 5,000-capacity Church with five loaves of bread and two fish; it was prophetic to mean that the youth would sponsor the church even in drier situations.
Apostle Sakyi made these remarks in his address at the Madina Area of CACI Youth Congress 2019 in Accra.
The congress, which registered more than 300 participants from the various circuits within the Madina Area of CACI; was held on the theme: “The Abilities of Youth to Get Wealth”.
Apostle Sakyi, who was spoke on the topic: “Understanding the youth as the source of economic strength of the church and nations”, described the youth as a gem in the human resource of any nation and Church.
He said parents and teachers, pastors and all opinion leaders would fail to achieve much if they consciously or unconsciously lose sight of the importance of youth.
He said among the challenges the youth encountered was that, church activities did not have relevance to the 21st century lives, so they resort to the vices of the contemporary world.
Apostle Sakyi highlighted the need for regular and educative conferences and seminars to equip the youth for leadership, economic empowerment and marriage.
Mr Mumuni Sulemana, Director of Operations and Programmes at the National Youth Authority (NYA), tasked the youth to take opportunities that existed; as opportunities were identified when there were challenges.
He said the ability to get wealth was one thing and creating wealth was another, hence, before one could create wealth as a young person, the individual must create it.
Mr Sulemana said to create wealth implied one should be able to identify what he or she was good at doing and then taking advantage of that to create wealth.
“For instance, if you are the type who is able to motivate others then you can create wealth for yourself and help others by becoming a motivational speaker”, he added.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Daniel Kwame Ampofo Adjei, the Madina Area Youth Secretary of CACI, said the Madina Area Youth Ministry of CACI that mobilises the youth and empowered them spiritually and socio-economically.
He said the essence of the congress was to build the capacity of the youth in the light of the many immoralities that was happening in society, adding that "the essence is to build their moral and spiritual capacity and encourage them to live a righteous life”.
Mr Adjei, who noted that this would help bring others into the Christian fraternity, said the congress also highlighted topics on financial management, health management and entrepreneurship.
Among dignitaries present at the Congress were, Reverend Paul Victor Obeng, Madina Area Secretary of CACI; Elder Caleb Osei, Presiding Elder of the Madina Area; and Elder Robert Ansu-Yeboah, Director of Finance of CACI.
