Accra, July 21, GNA – As part of the celebration of the International Men’s Day, the Men Development Network is organising the National Dad’s Conference to celebrate all men on November 23, 2019.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Derick Botsyoe, National Coordinator, White Ribbon Ghana, an organisation established by the Network, said a total of about 400 men were expected to attend the conference in Accra.
The conference, in collaboration with the Deeds Driven Dads, USA is to deliberate on major tropical issues that concerns men and make worthy recommendations that would go a long way to help shape the Ghanaian men.
It said the organisers of the conference believe that the narrative must change and it was time to make all fathers, Daddies because any father could be turned into a real man with through education and training.
The statement said the role of men in building the family unit was very key to the success and growth of the family and society at large.
“Looking at the patriarchal nature of our society, it is always advisable to get the dad to believe in the right things and the whole family unit becomes the beneficiaries,” it added.
Topics to be discussed included: men health (prostate cancer – symptoms, Cure and Prevention), men business (savings and investments), men family (the home and domestic violence), men religion (Dads believe system and the family), and men and Violence against women a man’s issue too.
It said conference would look at all that the man could do to help end violence against women because it is a man’s issue too because these women are their wives, sisters, daughters, aunties and mothers.
“The conference will take the opportunity to discuss the roles of men in ending violence against women, because issues of rape, defilement and work place harassments are becoming very rampant in our society,” it added.
The White Ribbon Ghana, is an organization working with men to end male violence against women, promote gender equality, and promote healthy masculinity and positive fatherhood in Ghana.
The statement said men were key in the fight of ending violence against women and gender parity.
It said good men must not sit aloof and allow some men in the minority, who perpetrate this violence to destroy the good image of the majority that love and respect women.
Other activities of the White Ribbon Ghana are Men health, Gender parity and end violence against women, Education on healthy masculinity and promote positive fatherhood.
