Accra, July 21, GNA - The Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG), on Friday inducted and admitted new Fellows and Associates into the profession.
The event which was held under the theme: "Ethical values for an effective insurance professional", was part of the profession's knowledge management process to create a positive atmosphere and a feeling of belonging.
The inductees included 19 Fellow and 179 Associates.
Professor Kwame Adom-Frimpong, the President of Institute of Chartered Accountant Ghana, said the management of CIIG spared no effort to groom and broaden the mindsets of new members with qualities that would make them multifaceted professionals.
He said it is the desire of every professional institute to enhance the career prospect of its members through continuous career development programmes.
Professor Adom-Frimpong said the insurance professionals cannot practice their own assumptions when they belong to a body and they should be guided by ethical principles such as integrity in practice, confidentiality and conflicts of interest amongst others.
"Without honesty and integrity, there is no foundation of trust, the insurance industry cannot successfully operate without their professionals being people of high integrity.
Professor Adom-Frimpong urged insurance professionals to respect the dignity and worth of all and the rights of the individual to privacy and self-determination.
Reverend Asante Marfo-Ahenkora, the President of CIIG, said the chartered status remains the symbol of attainment of the highest professional and ethical standard for insurance practitioners in the country.
"We do this as part of efforts at winning and securing public trust. Across the professional landscape, a chartered status stands proud as an indicator of the highest standards of learning and ethical behavior everywhere in the world ", he said.
Mr Michael Kofi Andoh, Deputy Commissioner Insurance, said they should remember that the objective as limited liability companies was not just to beat the companies but to generate sound returns on the shareholders’ investment.
He urged the inductees to make the profession and the industry proud in all their endeavors.
