Dambai (O/R), July 19, GNA - The chiefs and people of Wonkayaw, a farming community in the Krach East Municipality of the Oti Region have cleared the community's refuse dump, overflowing into homes and posing health risk to the people.
The clean-up followed a Ghana News Agency (GNA) publication on Monday, July 15, 2019, which focused on the insanitary conditions in the community and the possible outbreak of an epidemic.
The exercise was led by Dasebre Atamafowiese Kwame Bonja, Paramount Chief of Chonki Traditional Area in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Company Limited.
Dasebre Atamafowiese in an interview with GNA admonished the residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of wastes to avoid outbreak of diseases so they could remain in good ealth and contribute to the rapid development of the area.
He asked the people to be agents of change and to actively and frequently ensure that their surroundings were kept clean to protect them against any possible outbreak of diseases.
Mr Stephen Njochaala, Zoomlion Manager, Krachi East Municipality said the issue of sanitation and waste in Dambai was seriously posing a great challenge to the municipality.
He said management of Zoomlion would soon engage community members to discuss some amount to be paid for waste collection, saying, this would enable the company to effectively perform its core mandate to the people.
