Navrongo (UE) July 11, GNA - The Chiefs and People of Kassena-Nankana have commended the Navrongo Health Research Centre (NHRC) for its interventions in promoting the human development concepts of the people in the area.

The centre, from its inception in 1988, has promoted human development through the engagement of the people and their leaders in its activities, including research in finding cure for tropical diseases such as malaria and meningitis among others.

Pe Joseph Banapeh Afagachie, Paramount Chief of the Nakong Traditional Area at a day's dissemination of research activities by the NHRC to Chiefs of the Kassena-Nankana area noted that the center had created employment and good opportunities for the people.

 He indicated that many of the people in the area had become industrious and responsible to their families and communities as a result of the centers’ engagement and social interventions.

Pe Afagachie said aside the centers’ ability to promote the socio-economic activities of the people, it work had in equal margins reduced Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) and measles, which had for a long time threatened the health of children in the Kasseana-Nankana area.

He explained that the introduction of the Centre had promoted quality health delivery through its Community based Health Planning services (CHPS) compound programmes through the support of the Ghana Health Service.

Pe Afagachie commended the Centre for its efforts in promoting quality livelihoods of the people, and said the chiefs and people would continue to cooperate with the NHRC to ensure the wellbeing of the people.

Dr Abraham Rexford Oduro, Director of the NHRC said the forum was to present the state of the Centre to the chiefs and research communities concerned, on the outcomes of research projects conducted in the last couple of years and to solicit their support for future projects.

He said apart from providing critical feedback on activities of the NHRC, it was expected that the exercise would offer leadership of the Centre the opportunity to learn at first hand from the stakeholders, some of the bottlenecks impeding research work in the communities to improve strategies for effective engagement with their collaborators.

Dr Oduro called on the people to continue to support activities of the NHRC to enable government provide quality health services to the people in the area.
