Expose people whose actions disturb national peace - Rev Antwi-Tumfuor

Accra, July 11, GNA - Reverend Emmanuel Antwi-Tumfuor, the National Director of Evangelism, Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, has urged the youth to be vigilant and assertive and expose people whose actions disturb the peace of the country.

Rev Antwi-Tumfuor cautioned the youth to be decisive and never support the ills in society but be concerned about their future ambitions for their livelihood and national development.

“Do not allow yourselves to be used by self-seeking politicians for their personal gains. Anytime you are asked to engage in destructive activities, ask yourselves whether the family or children of the one instigating the move are part of the plan. Be positive about the country,” he added.

The Reverend Minister gave the advice in a statement at the Biennial Conference of the Boys' Brigade, Ghana in Ho, in the Volta Region and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, on the theme “Keep Watch Over Yourselves and the Members of the Boys' Brigade"(ACTS 20:28).

He said the theme was a call for the youth to be concerned about the growth of the Brigade, the same way they wanted to see the country progress in all spheres of development.

The Clergyman asked the youth to uphold the tenets of discipline, respect, hard work, commitment and dedication to duty to succeed in life.

He urged the youth to use their leisure time to engage in productive ventures, learn and acquire new skills, and offer themselves for voluntary service in the church and the community, to be responsible leaders.

Rev Antwi-Tumfuor called on society to create the right conditions for the youth to unearth their talents for national development.

Recently, Ghana was lifted high in the U.S.A during the World Robofest competition through the hard work of students from Methodist Girls Senior High School at Mamfe-Akuapem in the Eastern Region. The feat was attributed to proper guidance and encouragement.

Touching on sanitation, he urged the authorities to provide the necessary logistics for dumping of waste and ensuring timely collection and proper disposal at designated recycling points to make the cities clean.

“We expect our MMDAs to adopt measures that will promote the recycling of wastes to create job opportunities for our youth. This is where the Assemblies need to organize forums to seek citizens’ views especially the innovative ideas from the young people on how to turn waste into resource through recycling”.

He expressed concern about indiscriminate disposal of waste in communities, attributing poor attitude as the major cause of filth engulfing the country.

He commended the National Commission for Civic Education for dedicating its 2019 Annual Citizenship Week Celebration to sanitation issues on the theme: “A Clean Ghana Our Responsibility,“ targeting pupils at basic schools.

Rev Antwi-Tumfuor charged the youth to shun social vices that impeded development and adopt positive attitudes in all endeavours of nation building.

He was confident that the conference would direct young people on a path of high moral standards to positively influence development agenda when the assumed the helm of affairs.

The Reverend Minister said there was a national concern that the youth were exhibiting lifestyles, which if not checked would paint a gloomy picture for their future.

He urged the youth to guard against acts of indiscipline, get-rich-quick syndrome attitudes, getting involved in alcohol and drug abuse, and rioting in schools at the least provocation resulting in destruction of property and loss of life.
