Bankame (Ash), July 09, GNA – Mr Alexander Kwaku Korankye, the Board Chairman of the Middle Belt Development Authority (MBDA), has called on contractors executing projects under the One Constituency One Million Dollars initiative to strictly adhere to contract durations.
He said the authority would not countenance unnecessary delay of projects meant to bring relief to beneficiary communities.
Mr Korankye who made the observation during a tour of some project sites in the Asante-Akim South Municipality, said the development authorities were set up as vehicles to accelerate development, hence, delays in projects execution could not be allowed.
Accompanied by Nana Effah Appenteng, one of the board members, Mr. Korankye inspected toilet facilities with mechanized boreholes and solar panel at Juaso, Obogu, Bankame, Ahyiresu and Dansereso.
The team also inspected mechanized boreholes with solar panel and overhead tanks at Bompata and the Ofoase Senior High School.
With the exception of the toilet facility at Bankame, which had been completed during the visit, all the remaining projects were at various stages of completion and far behind schedule.
Mr. Korankye, who was visibly unhappy about the situation, charged the contractors to speed up, or risk losing the contract.
He said the projects were specifically undertaken to address pressing needs of the communities, adding that, undue delays could defeat the purpose for the projects.
He said government’s commitment of bringing development to the doorsteps of Ghanaians was on course and stressed the need for all stakeholders to play their respective roles to achieve the national agenda.
Mr. Alexander Frimpong, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), applauded government for the initiative, which he said would help solve a lot of social problems confronting the people.
He reiterated the need for the contractors to speed up the projects and called on the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives to make regular follow-ups to keep the contractors on their toes.
