Sekyere (Ash), July 09, GNA – A three unit classroom block constructed by the Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly for the D/A Basic Junior High School at Sekyere, a farming community in the District, has been commissioned.
The GH¢ 57,000.00 project is among a number of social intervention reliefs rolled out by the Assembly to boost education delivery, the local economy, and rural development, whiles making life more comfortable for the people of Sekyere.
The school block has facilities for a staff common room, store room, computer laboratory and an office for the Head teacher.
Mr. Samuel Addai Agyekum, the District Chief Executive (DCE) who commissioned the building, also broke the ground for work to begin on two other projects - the community’s Central Market Expansion and the construction of a mechanized bore-hole, which at a total cost of GH¢ 83,000.00.
The DCE said the market expansion project, which involved the construction of stalls and other spaces to facilitate trade and commerce, was to provide easy markets for the farm produce harvested by the farmers in the area and also raise revenue from market tolls.
‘‘It would also help improve the livelihoods of the local people especially women in the area, who were predominantly involved in small-scale trading of agricultural food and other products.
Mr. Bright Kpabitey, the District Engineer said the Sekyere Market, which currently had 10 stalls would be expanded to 14 with block pavement fixed within and around the market facility.
The Sanitation facility, provided as part of measures to achieve zero open defecation in the area, would also have a photocell flush system, which would provide an automatic flushing of the Water Closet (WC) after each use.
Mr. Paul Antwi Oppong, the District Education Director commended the Assembly for the provision of the school block and called for additional sets of furniture to refurbish the classrooms.
Nana Osei Kwabena Onin Pobii II, Chief of the Sekyere Traditional Area commended the Assembly and the government for the gesture and urged the community members to support and ensure the successful completion of the projects.
