Wa, July 9, GNA - Madam Matilda Chireh, the Head of Department of Children in Upper West Region, on Tuesday said inadequate staff in the region was badly undermining service delivery and therefore appealed for additional personnel be posted to the department.
The head of the Children Department under Ministry of Gender, Women and Children Protection, who was speaking with the GNA said lack of staff was a major challenge confronting the department.
“The Department of Children have only two permanent staff Members in the whole Upper West Region and due to that the workload on us is unimaginable and I wish the government could recruit some staff to help,” Madam Chireh said.
She also complained about inadequate logistics including vehicles to aid transport in reaching out to children and the vulnerable in faraway communities.
She attributed the situation to funding support saying: “The Department of Children is not getting the needed funding from central government”.
Madam Chireh added that the lack of funding made it difficult to carry out programmes and projects towards achieving the objective of the department as contained in its mandate for the protection of children.
She called on government to allocate adequate staff to the department to help operationalise their district offices across the region to help complement the work of the regional office.
