Accra, June 27, GNA - Mr. Kwesi Owusu, former captain of the Black Stars, has said, the team would bounce back from their disappointing draw in the first game to defeat Cameroon in the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt on Saturday.
He said the technical team and the playing body have learnt their mistakes from the first game and the players were eager to make amends in the second group game.
The Black Stars recorded a 2-2 draw with the Squirrels of Benin in their open Group F game of the AFCON on Tuesday, while their next opponent had emphatic 2-0 victory over Guinea- Bissau.
Speaking in an interview with GNA Sports, the former top scorer said, “even though the Cameroonians won, their opponent did not give them enough competition, as compared to our game, but they still struggled before scoring, so I think they are not better than the Ghana team”.
The 1970 AFCON member said, the players should be strong and improve from the first game because they would be playing against a team that are physically strong, fast and well organized than Ghana’s first opponent.
“I think Coach Kwesi Appiah should have the boldness to select and substitute players and he should let the players know that, he is the coach and no player is bigger than him.
He shouldn’t put his job at risk by considering underperforming players because the country demands a lot from him”, he added.
The Black Stars would play their second group game against the Talanga Lions of Cameroon who are the defending champions while Benin would play Guinea-Bissau in the AFCON at the Alexandria Stadium on Saturday.
