Accra, June 27, GNA - The International Games and Competitions Committee (IGCC), which has been tasked with a responsibility for the overall planning for Ghana’s preparation in all international games and competitions has said that Ghana will be heading into the upcoming African Games in Rabat Morocco with a well-managed Ghanaian sporting contingents that are medal hopefuls for the country.
This was made known in Accra when the IGCC Chaired by Professor Peter Twumasi, Director General for National Sports Authority (NSA) held its maiden press conference to outline plans and measures in place to all stakeholders for a successful participation.
According to Professor Twumasi, the IGCC has created six sub-committees under it to help function properly and effectively as Ghana is aiming beyond morocco 2019, but into 2023 as well when Ghana will welcome the rest of Africa as host.
“In order to ensure an efficient performance, the IGCC has established sub-committees comprising of a Technical Sub-Committee, Medical Sub-Committee, Protocol Sub-Committee, Logistics Sub-Committee, Marketing, Sponsorship and Media Sub-Committee and Finance and Budgeting Sub-Committee.
“This is to facilitate the work of IGCCC, where most of the decisions or work of the Sub-Committee would be ratified and approved by the IGCC before implementation.
“This is to ensure proper supervision and alignment of all the work of the Sub-Committee into the over-all objective of the IGCC”.
Reverend Richmond Quarcoo, Chef De Mission noted that Ghana in a bid to get good returns on each money spent, the country is going to present only medal hopeful sporting disciplines.
“We have deliberated on so many issues going into this event and the way forward and it has become necessary that we present a slim and lean team that can win us medals, rather than a large contingent but come empty handed.
“We have done major assessment of the various sporting disciplines and we are convinced that about eighteen can bring us laurels.
“We have recommended to the Sports Minister and based on his final say and authority, we might even drop some or add up to conform to what we can afford.
“African Games 2023 is what Ghana is very keen at, and it is very important we build a well round team for the future” he added.
The IGCC, which is responsible for the overall planning for Ghana’s preparation in all international games and competitions, where they will also consider and advise the Ministry on all requests by federations desiring to locally host and organize international competitions, including bilateral games has penciled down about twenty (20) sporting disciplines that are medal hopefuls.
