Accra, June 24, GNA - The Military Chaplains and Imams of the Ghana Armed Forces and Nigeria security services are undergoing a week’s basic chaplaincy course in Accra to prepare them for spiritual guidance and salvation of officers.
The course would see Chaplains and Imams from all the security services and para-military services going through the various modules to better position them to ensure that the soul of every officer was secured eternally as they lived soundly in the land of the living.
The course has been put together by the Directorate of Religious Affairs at the Ghana Armed Forces and the Military Christian Fellowship (MCF) Ghana in collaboration with the International Association of Evangelical Chaplains (IAEC) from the United States.
The Course among others would take participants through topics such as commander-chaplain relationship, pluralism, spiritual preparation, inductive Bible Study, marriage counselling, operational stress and critical incident stress.
In a remark delivered on his behalf, Lieutenant General Obed Akwa, the Chief of Defence Staff, said the course would assist the Chaplains and Imams to meet the needs of military personnel, civilian employees and their families in a way that glorifies God.
He urged participants to make the needed sacrifices towards tapping the full impact of the training as it was the first of its kind in the West African Region.
Lt. Gen. Akwa commended the MCF Ghana for the initiative because it would go a long way to ensure the effectiveness of the Chaplains and Imams in the Ghana Armed Forces.
He said there had been a long standing relationship between Ghana and the USA, which had benefitted both countries mutually and had resulted in the organisation of the training programme.
Group Chaplain Sunday Igwe, the President of MCF West Africa, said God was interested in making all participants Ambassadors for Christ to reach out to the military men and women in operational countries.
He urged participants to ensure that no soldier, police officer, no fire service and any para-military services personnel should die without knowing Christ.
Group Chaplain Igwe urged the participants to be more prayerful to ensure that they were filled with the spirit from on high, saying that, “prayer is like a bank account and that the more you pray the more your account becomes fat”.
