Kintampo (B/E), June 14, GNA - Mrs Theresa Yeboah, a Registered Community Health Nurse at the Kintampo Municipal Hospital has urged adolescents to patronise Adolescent Health Corners (AHCs) for quality adolescent reproductive health activities.
She stated that the AHCs provided the necessary assistance to adolescents and advised them to make regular visits to be guided and educated on challenges and experiences pertaining to psychological, physiological and emotional state of the adolescent stage of life.
“The adolescent age is a transitional period and transformational stage from childhood to adulthood and the AHCs were created to facilitate that, so don’t feel shy to come to the centres because we are there for you,” she assured.
Mrs Yeboah gave the advice when she spoke at a day’s training programme on adolescent reproductive health education at Kintampo in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Bono East Region.
Participated by more than 50 participants aged between nine and 24 from the Municipality and its environs, the programme was organised by the National Youth Authority (NYA) in collaboration with the Ghana Education Services (GES) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) with funding from the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA).
The programme aimed at “preparing especially adolescent girls to save them from unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions for them to attain maturity for planned and prepared child-birth”
It was also to guide them to nurture their God-given talents and potentials for meaningful and responsible adult lives.
Participants were taken through topics such as “Adolescent Stage Challenges and Experiences”, “Causes and Consequences of Unwanted Pregnancies and Unsafe Abortion” and “The Need to Abstain from Pre-marital Sex”.
Madam Fati Bamba, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions Director of the NYA earlier in a welcome address advised the participants to flee from engaging in drugs peddling and abuse, alcoholism and other social vices.
“Don’t misuse mobile phones and the internet, rather make judicious use of them and be mindful of misinformation from friends,” she stressed.
Mad. Bamba entreated them to engage in educative programmes and other activities in their communities to broaden their intellectual capacities to facilitate their holistic development for quality and responsible lives in the future.
