Aflao, June 12, GNA - Police say the Proprietor and Head Teacher of Kekeli School, picked up Monday at Aflao for secret registration of 62 Togolese students for the 2019 BECE as Ghanaians, are to be prosecuted for forgery of official documents.
Mr. Eric Vondee, Aflao District Police Crime Officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), that the two are being investigated for "forgery of official documents according to the Criminal Offences Act, Act 29/60."
According to him, police have in its custody Admission Register, Attendance Register and copies of cumulative records of the students at Kekeli for scrutiny.
Emmanuel Mawuli and Innocent Agblevor, were arrested upon a tip off, were on Tuesday granted police inquiry bail, but will continue to assist with the investigations.
The Togolese Interpol officials on Tuesday aided their Ghanaian counterparts to extend their investgations to Faith School at Dekon, Lome, where the 62 candidates, were students, whilst Mawuli and Agblevor were also taken along there.
Mr. Vondee said Administrator of the Faith School, John Eleanyo, admitted an annual arrangement with Kekeli school to register their 3rd year pupils for the BECE, but explained that their students, who are from Togo, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gambia, do go back to their parents to further their education after the BECE, denying that Free SHS was their target.
He said claims by the suspects that Faith School was Kekeli School annex and its final year students always registered for the BECE, has been denied.
Mr. Vondee also said statements obtained from five of the 62 affected students, all stated they were students of Faith Mission School, and were brought to Kekeli School about a month ago to write the BECE.
The students, according to the Crime Officer, made it clear their parents paid about 150,000 CFA, the equivalent of about GH¢ 1,365, per student to the Kekeli Proprietor as registration fees.
He said the 62 students are still writing the examination.
The Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Elliot Agbenorwu, at whose instance the arrest was effected,claimed the case was a clear sabotage of the Free SHS policy, that the 62 students were meant to access the scheme, meant for only Ghanaians, illegally.
