Accra, June 11. GNA - The Handball Association of Ghana (HAG) has announced a provisional squad of 18 players, to start training ahead of the African Under-18 Youth Male Handball Championship in Lome, Togo from 1st -6th July, 2019.
The provisional list, which is made up of three keepers, five wingers, five back court players, three coordinators and two pivot players, would be pruned to 12 after two weeks non-residential training at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Mr. George Bankole, head coach for the national handball team in an interview with the GNA Sports noted that the tournament, which was being organized by the French Handball Federation (FHF) and the African Handball Confederation (CAHB), was aimed at developing young talents for future championships.
“This championship is in line with the long term developmental agenda of the HAG for the all-important 2023 All African Games to be hosted by Ghana.
“The championship is being organized by the French handball federation (FHF) and the African Handball Confederation (CAHB), with countries like Togo, Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali”.
He noted that the championship was going to be a great platform for two young Ghanaian coaches, as they would take part in the officiating, to boost their chances of officiating in major and international events.
The full list starting with the goalkeepers are Edmond Coffie (Gt. Fingers Int.), Edward Nana Addo (Kasland) and Iddrisu Majeed who plays for Cantonment Youth.
The defence would be made up of Mumuni Rashid (Gt. Fingers Int), Ibrahim Rashid (Elwak Wings), Issah Ahmed (Gt. Fingers Int.), Prince Yartey (Gt. Fingers Int.), and Ebenezer Essuman (Cantonment Youth).
Simon Daadiya (Elwak Wings), Thompson Addo (Cantonment Youth), Ishmael Quarno (Hostac), Faruk Sadat (Kasland) and Afoko Henry of Elwak Wings would make up for the back court players with Elvis Sowah (Cantonment Youth), Bright Azanu (Elwak Wings) and Askana Mohammed of Army making up the coordinators.
The pivot would have Bawa Gideon and Prosper Banase of Elwak Wings and Kasland respectively.
