Accra, June 10, GNA – As part of the Y’ello Care Programme for 2019, MTN Ghana has commenced the construction of a 20-bed capacity dormitory for the WAG-SEVICO Training Institute in Pantang, Accra, to accommodate unemployed youth learning vocational skills.
The construction, which is expected to be completed within the 21-days of the Y’ello Care programme, would serve students who were unable to attend school regularly due to their inability to pay for transportation daily to the Institute.
Staff of MTN as part of the programme voluntarily helped constructors of the dormitory to build the facility.
Mr Selorm Adadevoh, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that it was better to support communities with 100 per cent staff participation, hence the voluntary support.
Mr Adadevoh advised the students to take their studies seriously as it could support their livelihood and that of others in the future.
“It is important to have skills to develop yourselves and whatever you do here, just take it seriously because you don’t know where it can take you tomorrow,” he said.
Ms Felicia Adade, the Founder of the Institute, expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana for the support, especially since it had been their appeal and cry to many institutions for a long period.
She said some of the students due to lack of money for transportation slept in the classrooms, therefore, the dormitory when completed would be of great help to them.
The Institute with a student population of 75 trains less privileged youth especially those with talent and the desire to be self employed in different vocational skills including bead making, hairdressing, makeup arts, and dress making as well as Computer Science.
