Winneba (C/R) May 27, GNA - A petty trader, who for seven consecutive times attended the Social Accountability meetings and made immense contributions during discussions was at the weekend awarded the best attendant in Effutu Municipality.
For her award, she was presented with her own portrait for making contributions during one of the forums and an envelope with undisclosed amount.
Madam Coleman expressed appreciation to the management of the Assembly for the honour done her and promised to make more meaningful contributions to help the Assembly in managing affairs of Effutuman.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. John B. Ninson, Effutu Municipal Chief Executive called for more public involvement in such meetings to enable them inject ideas and suggestions that would ensure smooth administration of the Assembly.
Mr. Ninson said the haphazard dumping of refuse in gutters and drains, defecating along the beaches and littering must stop and warned that the Assembly has put in place measures to apprehend people indulging in such acts.
He said sanitation was the topmost priority of the Government to ensure that the citizenry lived in a healthy environment to enable them to contribute towards the development of the nation.
Mr Francis Kankam-Boadu, Planning Officer for Effutu Assembly said the Assembly estimated revenue of GH¢3,021,109.76 for the first quarter from their major funding sources “IGF, DACF, DDF, IDA and GoG, were able to generate a total GH¢1,993,081.64 representing 65.97 of the targeted figure.
He indicated that IGF target was GH¢466,666.68, but GH¢378,551 was accrued, representing 81 percent, while the District Development Fund received was 562,133.44 representing 41.73 percent of the targeted GH¢1,346,983.20.
On projects, Mr Kankam-Boadu stated that the Assembly constructed a 10-seater W/C biogas toilet each at the sum of GH¢178,696.10, and GH¢149,452.18 at Effutu Ponkoekyir, a two-Unit KG Block with restroom, offices, sanitary area and kitchen valued at GH¢258,464.85 at Effutu Ateitu and a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facility at UNIPRA South at the cost of GH¢240, 777.83.
He noted that the Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development were ongoing and at a smooth pace in the Municipality and that a total of 586 people were benefiting from the LEAP programme while 308 personnel were enrolled on the NABCO programme.
Mr Kankam-Boadu further said the Assembly under the disability benefit scheme distributed a number of items including; fridges stocked with fish, corn mills, provisions and Kiosks to 31 persons with disability in the Municipality.
Mr. Alex Afenyo-Markin Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu also distributed 450 mono Desks to eight schools in the area as his support towards effective teaching and learning.
The forum enlightened the people on the prevention and management of post-disaster on fire, floods, drought, epidemics, windstorms, sea erosion and famine as well as waste management and sanitation situation.
Neenyi Ghartey VII, Paramount Chief of Effutu Traditional Area who chaired the meeting commended the Assembly for giving account of their stewardship and urged them to maintain it.
He urged his people to abide by the directive on the closure of the sea to avoid prosecution adding that one month was just around the corner and gave the assurance that unapproved materials for fishing expedition would not be allowed when fishing resumed.
