He described the late Edward Ameyibor as a hardworking, committed, dedicated man who contributed to the stability and orderliness of the nation especially through the field of journalism.
President Rawlings made these attributes during a visit by the Ameyibor Family to inform him about the death of Mr Edward Ameyibor who was also a former Supervising Chief Editor of the Ghana News Agency.
President Rawlings assured the family of support during the difficult moment and encouraged the children to work together to offer the late Edward Ameyibor a befitting burial.
Mr Ameyibor, affectionately called ‘OGA’ in the media fraternity died at the age of 76 at the Trust Hospital, Osu, on Monday, May 13.
Oga worked with the GNA for almost four decades - from October 1, 1963 to August 31, 2002.
After leaving the GNA, he worked with Diamond FM, a private radio station in Tamale, for many years as General Manager from October 2002 to July 2013.
In 2008, while he was still the General Manager of Diamond FM, he assumed the position of the General Secretary of SSNIT National Pensioners Association, a position he held until his death.
He also served in various capacities, including the Vice Chairman of HelpAge Ghana.
Meanwhile, Books of Condolences have been opened at his residence, Tema Community 11, the SSNIT National Pensioners Association’s office at Osu, and the Ghana International Press Centre.
A statement issued by the Head of Ameyibor Family in Accra and Tema, Torgbe Walter Ameyibor, said the funeral of the late Mr Ameyibor, would be held on Friday, July 5, at the Tema Joint Church, Community 7.
