Zebilla (U/E), May 15, GNA - Key stakeholders in the Bawku-West District of the Upper-East Region, have undergone a training workshop at Zebilla, in order to keep abreast with issues relating to adolescent sexual and reproductive health, as well as gender-based violence.
The programme, sponsored by Amplify Change, a fund that aims to empower people to realize their sexual and reproductive health and rights, was in line with efforts to eliminate preventable, maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity through comprehensive sexuality education.
It was also meant to empower the participants, especially the younger generation to know and exercise their rights - including the right to delay marriage and also refuse unwanted sexual advances.
Mr. Mohammed Bun Bida, Programmes Director in-charge of Muslim Family Counseling Services, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), which organized the programme, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sideline of the programme that, too many young people faced barriers to reproductive health information.
“Even those able to find accurate information about their health and rights may be unable to access the services needed to protect their health,” he noted.
The Programmes Director said the workshop was held under the Organization’s project dubbed “Improving Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health in Bawku-West”.
It targeted people with disabilities, victims of gender-based violence, faith-based organizations and traditional authorities, as well as youth groups.
Mr. Bun Bida hinted that the training programme had some selected men and boys, as well as persons with disability who had been trained as advocates to end gender-based violence.
