Accra, April 29, GNA - Mr Michael Nsowah, the Chairman, Ghana Education Service Council, has called on parents, school directors and proprietors to provide a convenient learning atmosphere for children to enable them develop their full potentials.
He said it was important as it would ensure that children grew up to become responsible adults.
Mr Nsowah, who made the call at the 10th UCMAS National inter-schools competition and camping in the Central Region, said every child should have time to play and be creative and UCMAS played a major role in that regard.
UCMAS quiz is a brain development programme, which has trained children between the ages of four years to 13 to display speed and accuracy, which increases their intelligence levels.
The event, which was the 10th UCMAS National Competition was on the theme: “A UCMAS Child; a Gift in Today’s Competitive World.”
He said the UCMAS programme provided a well-rounded education to develop children’s concentration, creative thinking, memory power, logical reasoning abilities and to boost children’s confidence to face challenges.
“The benefits of the UCMAS brain development programme are endless, but to sum it up, the listening, concentration and mental calculation skills are developed to enable pupils excel in every subject,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to all schools that participated in the competition and urged all directors and proprietors of basic schools both private and public, and parents to enrol their wards on the UCMAS programme to enable them to develop to the best of their abilities.
Mr Roger Ohemeng, the Chief Executive Officer UCMAS Ghana Ltd, urged parents and directors of schools to give pupils the competitive edge to enable them have a strong mental power.
In all, about 1,450 pupils from 70 schools and centres participated in the national competition.
A total of 330 pupils were awarded with trophies and souvenirs out of the 17 categories together with the 17 champions from each category.
He expressed gratitude to all institutions that supported the competition to a success and called for government’s partnership to be able to extend their services to public schools.
Mr Ohemeng noted that soon the season 10 of the UCMAS quiz competition would start showing on TV.
Mr Girish Gurbani, the Director, UCMAS West Africa, commended the UCMAS Ghana Ltd for organising the competition and ensuring that the total brain programme reached most Ghanaian children.
“We hope to gradually ensure total brain development, eradicate mathematics phobia from all Ghanaian children, boost their confidence level, enhance their listening skills and strengthen their creativity and imagination level for educational development of Ghana.
“We believe that the UCMAS total brain development programme forms a good foundation for our children. Hence the challenges in science and mathematics education will be alleviated for better results in the near future.
The innovation and creativity of the UCMAS child is an invaluable tool in the nation’s development,” he stated.
Mr Gurbani noted that this year, the annual UCMAS International Quiz Competition would be held in Cambodia in December and was confident that many more students from Ghana would win awards.
