Nsuta (Ash) April 24, GNA - Mrs Victoria Archer, the Headmistress of Nsutaman Catholic Senior High School, in the Sekyere Central District, has appealed to the government and other educational stakeholders to assist the school with more boys’ dormitories, to stem the growing student indiscipline and truancy.
She said the inadequate dormitories especially for boys, has compelled most male students to be day students and the situation, apart from fuelling absenteeism, truancy and other forms of indiscipline, is also undermining the academic performance of the students.
“With the school’s current record of 95 per cent scores in the last WASSCE results, we stand the chance of improving to 100 per cent scores, if we were able to overcome this challenge,” She added.
The students are taking advantage of the double stream – GOLD and GREEN system, to outwit and confuse the school authorities about their identities, when they are caught roaming in town, during instructional hours, she said.
Mrs Archer made the appeal when she addressed an annual Easter Fund Raising event organised by the Nsuta Community in aid of an on-going Community Centre project on the Easter Sunday at Nsuta in the Sekyere Central District.
She said it was difficult for all the teachers to identify the in-school or out-of- school students and the smart students were using this as an advantage to dodge the necessary correctional action from school authorities.
The Headmistress expressed appreciation to Mr Sekyere Abankwa and his elder brother, Mr Ebenezer Afoakwa Sekyere for providing free accommodation for her, for three months, when her Bungalow was not ready after she had been transferred to work in the school.
She attributed the high academic performance to the hard work of the tutors in the school and added that the school had qualified as finalist to represent the school zone in this year’s National Science and Maths Quiz, after defeating Yaa Asantewaa SHS and the likes.
The Fund-raising ceremony, which attracted resident and non-residents, citizens as well as the Chiefs and people of the traditional area, yielded a cash amount of GH¢200,000.00.
