Accra, April 23, GNA - Paul Dogboe, father and trainer of Isaac "Royal Storm" Dogboe, the former World Boxing Organisation (WBO), Super Bantamweight World Champion, has said, his ward is ready to reclaim the tittle from Emmanuel Navarette, as they square off on May 11.
According to the technical head of Team Dogboe, their camp was faced with several internal problems, which were overlooked before the first fight, but added that, they had fixed all those problems and ready to reclaim their title.
Dogboe Snr, recounting a number of problems at a press conference in Accra, said, Dogboe Jnr, in the build-up to the fight, had been in and out of hospital, because he was suffering from allergies and was not in good condition for the bout.
He noted that, they had also relaxed on their training regimes because of their boxer’s health condition.
“What happened in the last fight was a case of being caught up by knockout wins in your previous fights. Sometimes these are some of the surprises that happens when you underrated your opponents.
“After the winning many knockouts, we considered Navarette to be a push over, so we were a little bit relaxed at training. He (Dogboe) was in and out of hospitals as well, allergies but then we had the hope that Isaac was on touchable,” he said.
He said they had learnt their lessons well and have initiated the necessary mechanisms to avert any repeat of such in the future.
“We learnt our lessons after failing against him. It is a lesson learnt the hard way. We didn’t expect Navarrete to come at that level. Every battle is a life and death. We are just sorry that we underrated Navarrete in that fight and we have learnt our lessons,” he noted.
Dogboe ((20-1, 14 KO), activated his rematch clause against the Mexican, Navarrete (26-1, 22 KO) and the bout has been scheduled to co-feature to another rematch between Miguel "Alacrán" Berchelt and Francisco "Bandido" Vargas on Saturday, May 11, at the Convention Centre, Tuscon in Arizona, United States of America (USA).
Dogboe, 24 has promised a fourth-round knockout of his combatant to reclaim his lost title in a fight he has code named “redemption fight.”
